Our Story

Named after the legendary Princess Inikpi, whose sacrifice ensured the survival of the Igala Kingdom, our station embodies heroism, truth, and service. With a commitment to high-quality news, entertainment, and cultural programming, INIKPI Radio & TV is the voice of the people.

Conceptualized under the Kogi East Leadership & Vision initiative, powered and sponsored by Ukomu Igala Organization and leaders of other Igala sociocultural groups such as Igala Bassa Development Initiative (IBDI), Igala Association USA, Igala Association UK, Igala Cultural Development Association and others, our mission is to bridge the communication gap, preserve cultural heritage, and provide accurate, fair, and engaging content

TESTAMENT TO THE ENDURING POWER & ATTRIBUTES OF BRAVERY & SACRIFICE – THE IGALA LEGENDARY PRINCESSES INIKPI & OMODOKO*

The Igala Kingdom, nestled in the heart of Nigeria, boasts a rich cultural heritage rooted in the bravery and selflessness of its people. Two remarkable princesses, Inikpi and Omodoko, embody the kingdom’s values, their stories transcending time to inspire generations.

*The Ultimate Sacrifice of Princess Inikpi*

In the 16th century, Princess Inikpi, daughter of Ayegba Oma’Idoko, the legendary king of the Igala Kingdom, made the ultimate sacrifice to save her kingdom. As the neighboring Benin Empire threatened their land, the legendary king (Ata) consulted the oracle, seeking solution to save his Kingdom. The oracle decreed that the only way to defeat the Bini Kingdom was for the Ata to sacrifice Princess Inikpi by burning her alive.

Princess Inikpi, noticing her father’s heartbroken and sorrowful mood, asked to know the reason behind her father sadness. When she learnt of the Oracles decree, she voluntarily offered herself as a sacrifice for

 the sake of her people (the Igala race) and she was buried alive at the bank of the River Niger at Idah, Kogi State, Nigeria. Her sacrifice brought victory to the Igala Kingdom.

Her selfless act brought prosperity and protection to the kingdom. Today, the site where she was buried remains a revered shrine. Princess Inikpi in the heart and mind of Igalas all over the world today remained a heroine and a symbol of unity, courage and strength in defence of their root.

*The Brave Sacrifice of Princess Omodoko*

In the 17th century, Princess Omodoko, daughter of Attah Idoko, king of the Igala kingdom, also demonstrated extraordinary bravery. As the Igala kingdom clashed with 

crucial role in the kingdom’s victory. Their prayers contaminated the river, weakening the Jukun warriors who drank from it and ate its fish.

The Igala kingdom emerged victorious, hailing Princess Omodoko’s sacrifice as a pivotal moment in their history.

The stories of Princess Inikpi and Princess Omodoko have been passed down through generations, inspiring countless people with their bravery, selflessness, and unrelenting dedication to their kingdom. Their legacies serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of sacrifice, diplomacy, and courage in the face of adversity.
